Look what you made me do

In the famous words of Taylor Swift, I say to my old skin care routine and my makeup with much sadness LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO!!!! You have given me no choice but to go the natural way, yes it may mean as a blogger I don’t get free makeup or skin care products to review but my skin and body’s health are way more important than getting free stuff if I am just going to be honest. What you might not realize is your favorite skin care products can be significant contributors of harmful ingredients, toxins, and chemicals.  The majority of store-bought, commercially-produced beauty products come packed with artificial colors, fragrances, preservatives and stabilizers that can easily be absorbed through the skin’s pores, potentially causing a range of negative long-term health effects and breakouts. So what does this mean for your beauty routine? The good news is that there’s still plenty of natural ways to make your skin − and your even hair, teeth or nails − look their best without needing to buy expensive and harmful commercial products. Women all over the world have been using natural skin care products for centuries and have some of the most admirable skin to show for it!

My personal reason for deciding to go natural when it comes to my skin care is that throughout my adult life I have had a problem with breakouts and I have tried everything to try and make my skin look good on the outside. What I have come to realize is that I want my skin and body to be healthy from the inside out. I want to put products on my face and in my body that is going to be beneficial for me in the future. I want to be that 60 year old who still looks 30 you know. In my personal opinion and from doing lots of research over the past few months is that makeup and skin care that is not caring for the skin is actually prematurely aging you and giving you bad skin in the long run.

Ever wonder why when ever you do not wear makeup you look tired or drained? It is because the very thing you think you are putting on your skin is making it look amazing does sadly not have a lasting effect and so you keep putting more makeup on or washing your face more just to get that fresh faced look. It’s a vicious cycle that won’t end until you actually get to the source of the problem. We look at super models and celebs who have perfect skin and think how can I ever get that type of skin? To my surprise I have read many articles where people have said that the secret to great skin is minimal product, moisture, and hydration, so to simply put it you don’t need 4 face cleansers, toners, 3 types of night cream etc…..

All I think you need and I have found works for me is:

Drink water – Water is essential to maintain the skin’s moisture and deliver essential nutrients to the skin cells. It replenishes the skin tissue and increases its elasticity. This helps delay the appearance of signs of aging ( hello, who doesn’t want that ) like wrinkles and fine lines.  Water is a perfect replacement for your expensive anti-aging treatments. It keeps the skin well hydrated and glistening, enhancing the complexion. For soft and supple skin, drinking an adequate amount of water is more important than applying expensive creams.

Coconut oil – One of the most versatile skin (and food) ingredients there is, coconut oil’s skin benefits include: strengthening underlying epidermal tissue, removing dead skin cells, protecting us from sunburns, and containing antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and antioxidant properties.

Use coconut oil on both your skin and hair to help cleanse, moisturize, remove makeup, heal wounds or scars quicker, and prevent razor burn. Coconut oil used internally is also beneficial for your looks. It contains antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, plus loads of healthy fats that help nourish your gut and increase immune function. Healthy skin is just like any other organ in your body: It continuously needs oxygen and nutrients to be brought to the cells, and toxins need to be washed away. Therefore, coconut oil helping with hormonal and digestive function is crucial for optimal skin health.

If I can say anything right now that will get you to start thinking differently about your skin it would be this….. Don’t apply these methods because you want to see results next week ( although the results are pretty immediate ) Do it because you want to change your life style to that of a healthy one, one that will make your 60-year-old self thank your 20something-year-old self.

Thanks so much Zanel 🙂 And raw organic coconut oil from a health store is good. I will be doing another blog post this week on what exactly I use and where to get it from. Glad you enjoyed the post and are inspired, that means so much.

Hi Lisa, Thanks so much. I am glad you enjoyed the post. Any organic raw coconut oil from a health store is good. It is around R160 but it last from 6 months to a year depending on how often you use it. So I think that is a great price for the amount of value and health benefits you get from it.
