Ever needed to do something but you really didn’t feel like it? Have you ever wanted to get better at something but you keep staying in the same place and you don’t know why? Chances are you let your feelings get the better of you. Growing and becoming a stronger person sounds amazing and everyone wants to be that, yet we don’t all the time because the way to getting there is pretty hard if I am just being real here. If you have read more than one of my posts you would know that sugar coating is not my strong point. Telling it like it is, is where It’s at folks haha.
Anyway, What I have realized in the past couple of years is that life is made up of decisions and the decisions we make will effect our futures. Yes I know it’s not ground breaking news we have all heard that a million times right? YET we still continue making bad decisions that effect our growth and effect who we will become one day.
How can you grow into being a better leader, a better friend, a better mother/father, a better Student and in general just the best version of yourself?
1: When you realize that you will never arrive.
The quicker I realized that, immediately that pressure to be the best was no longer there. Now of cause you don’t just want to become lazy and take the opposite effect but for me realizing that I will never get to a point where I know it all, helped me to just keep running my own race and move forward in the plan that I know God has for me. Instead of comparing myself to someones else’s journey. I have taken the stance of, I will never graduate from learning even if I feel I know something well. Having a teachable spirit is the key to growing in my opinion.
2: Growing is not about your feelings.
If we did everything in this life by the way we felt on the day I think we would be in big trouble. Sometimes doing what needs to be done goes against what you feel but that is when I have realized that my life is not about me, it is about something so much bigger. So is yours, you and me were put on this earth to show people that there is good in the world and that love is the answer. So with that being said. sometimes that requires us to do things that are out of our comfort zone, it requires us to do things even though we may be tired, it requires us to be nice to someone that maybe is not nice back to you. If it means that others lives will be changed because of it then I would say that it’s all worth it in the end.
Confession session: Sometimes I don’t feel like getting up at 5am on a Sunday morning to be at church and lead worship. If every time I gave into that feeling of tiredness, it means that God can’t use me in that moment to possibly touch someones life. No it’s not about me and if I did not sing that morning God would simply use someone else but my revelation is that God wants to use me, he has given me the honor of stepping on that platform and if I don’t go because I don’t feel like it I am disrespecting Gods house as well as my leaders who have entrusted me with the opportunity to show people who Jesus is.
So Yes what ever it is you have before you to do, it is an opportunity even if at the time you do not see it that way. Sometimes it is the very things that we do not want to do that will grow our character the most.
3: Your agenda does not matter.
The end goal to being the best version of yourself is not to get something at the end of it all, wether that be a raise in pay check or recognition of some sort, a promotion or a pat on the back. Being a better you is about growing your character so that the next generation can follow in your foot steps. So that you can help someone else going through a similar issue. It really isn’t about you, it isn’t about me. It is about God and people.
4: Keep going don’t stop when it’s to going your way.
Longevity is a major key to growth and becoming stronger in our character. When something is not going quite how you expected that is ok. We can not fool ourselves into thinking that we can to any of this life without God. At the end of the day we are human and we will have bad days where we might want to give up, but when you have God on your side it becomes a lot easier and the road does not seem so long. You start to see the path as an adventure instead of an end goal that you feel you will never reach.
In closing I just want to say that life is a journey and we will mess up, we will not always get it right but that is ok because Gods grace covers it all. All we can do is live life the best we know how, realizing 1. we never arrive 2. its bigger than our feelings 3. Its about Gods Agenda not ours 4. Keep going and don’t give up.
YOU WERE MADE FOR THIS!!!
