Life always means something more when you know you are apart of something bigger than yourself. The Dressing Room Ladies are doing just that by Supporting the A21 Campaign in every way that we can. One of the ways that we have chosen to do so is by doing the A21 #WALKFORFREEDOM which is taking place on the 17 Oct 2015.
“The #WalkForFreedom is our collective effort to heighten awareness of modern-day slavery and raise funds to take us one step closer to ending human trafficking in our lifetime.”
– A21 CAMPAIGN –
I asked a few of the ladies to say why it is that they have chosen to walk and support this Beautiful and powerful campaign.
We hope you become more passionate and that it stirs you to act and take the stand with us.
WHY I CHOOSE TO WALK – Manga ( On the Left )
Walk For (frē′dəm): walking for [the condition of not being in prison or captivity]
I choose to do the walk because those are our sisters who are enslaved, abused and made to feel worthless, it’s their own fault and that there’s no purpose for their lives.
Let’s re:imagine a nation where the +/- 27mil in slavery are freed, that 99% of those slaves are rescued and not just 1%, that 99,999% are convicted and not just .001% and most of all, for it to become the slowest growing organised crime! Let’s re:imagine a better future for our sisters.
WHY I CHOOSE TO WALK – Jenna ( On the Right )
It is a sad truth that in the 21st century there are still around 27million men and women who are trapped in human trafficking. A21 is a powerful organization who are doing their part to try put an end to the bondage these men and women face on a daily basis, but an issue as large as this one requires more than just the efforts of one or two, it requires the participation of a nation.
I chose to do the walk for freedom as I believe it provides a way for us all to get involved and contribute in a small way by raising awareness and funds to get us one step closer to putting a stop to human trafficking.
Many people underestimate the contribution of the walk, however in participating you are publicly admitting to stand against human trafficking. You may just be one person, but you are one person closer to a global stand against human trafficking. You are one more person fighting for those who are trapped in bondage and I can assure you, to them you count!
Don’t fall for the lie that one person cannot make a difference. Your actions count.
WHY I CHOOSE TO WALK – Natasha
I am doing the Walk For Freedom purely because it is an opportunity that has come across my path to help make a change and I love to do whatever I can to help impact someone else’s life.
When I think of Freedom, what comes to mind is joy and the ability of waking up every morning knowing that I am loved no matter what and my purpose is to share this love to OTHERS. The word “walk” refers to an action of ‘moving forward’ yet at a steady pace and therefore a “Walk for Freedom” is an event of action which enables others to be released into a state of LOVE.
Although taking part of The Walk for Freedom is not a direct way of loving women and children who have been imprisoned in human trafficking, but by taking part – it opens up opportunities for more and more people to become directly involved and aware in saving the lives of innocent people.
HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED
For the past few weeks we have been selling NUTELLA Cupcakes, yes I said Nutella. A massive portion of the funds go towards fundraising for A21 and we will be there on the day of the walk ( Sea Point Promenade ) selling cupcakes for just R10 so that you too can be apart making a difference and shining a light on this injustice.
